The Usual (Sexy) Suspects

Ladies, have you ever caught yourself buying a men's magazine? You can give the excuse that it's for the fashion or to get a guy's perspective on style. But we all know the real reason. You like that eye candy. The latest edition of Details Magazine is scooping up and serving you 10 flavors of male model. We've got some American Apple Pie, French Vanilla, Butter Pecan, Cafe Au Lait, White Russian, Spiced Rum. Mmm mmm. I'm sure you've seen these guys around the way. But in case you'd like to be on a first name basis here you go. From left to right we've got Garrett Neff, Clement Chabernaud, Noah Mills, Tyson Ballou, RJ Rogenski, Andrés Velencoso Segura, Mathias Lauridsen, Arthur Kulkov, Simon Nessman, and Sean O'Pry. It's scrumdiddlyumptious!

While I am completely smitten with this cover especially with Clement Chabernaud (future father of my children) all front and center, I've found a few flaws. First of all, why is the highest-paid male model Sean O'pry on the inside flap? That man has worked hard enough to have his faces plastered on dozens of billboards and all over tons of campaigns. Rarely does a magazine put models on the cover instead of a celebrity, and I think Details skipped a great opportunity to let Sean have his moment in the spotlight. Another thing that irks me is where's the colour? Can we please get some chocolate goodness in the mix? I need some Rob Evans or you can even give me an oldie-but-goodie like Tyson Beckford. And where are the freckled boys? I want some Willy Cartier or Victor Ross. Can we get some fine asian men here please! And another thing? Why are these guys wearing so much clothing? Take it off! Sorry. I got a little excited there. This is a men's fashion magazine, but I think clothing should be optional. I also think Details should let me pick the men for this shoot next time. We'll just have an open call at my place. Right?!

Sound Off: What male model would you like to see included in this lineup?

Every Girl's Crazy About A Sharp Dressed Man

Power + Suit + Tie = man with style. There's something incredibly sexy about that. You've seen a guy who has a great face and nice body but his clothes are baggy and boring. Pull your pants up, son. But you get him in a nice suit or even a pair of jeans that fit just right, and OH MY GOODNESS! My girls and I were talking about how it seems like real men are extinct. Little boys who don't know how to screw in a light bulb or dress themselves are walking the earth... and they act as if they are God's gift to us. Ha! Move over, kid. Let the experts show you how it's done.

This is why for the second year in a row, I am dedicating the month of November to the guys. This one's for all the hot-bodied, red-blooded, chiseled-face dudes who know how to take care of business. All the hardworking blue collar boys who bring home the bacon. All the self-made innovators who don't wait for the trends, but create them. I'm talking about the Tom Fords, Pharrells, and James Francos. The Justin Timberlakes, George Clooneys, and Boris Kodjoes. I do this for selfish reasons. Give me any excuse to post photos of sexy, fine fellows everyday. But seriously. Men, I love your style, strength, and the bold choices you make that inspire the rest of us. This one's for you.

"To Sir With Love"

Guys vs. Girls: Who Makes More Dough

Underpaid but just as sexy. The numbers are out and the result is like whoa. According to Forbes, the world's top earning male model earns $1.5 million compared to the his female counterpart who rakes in $42 million. Say what?! I'm all about gender equality and fair wages, but this sort of makes me smile. Ok, ok. I know it isn't right. In any other industry this would not happen. According to recent stats, the average American woman still earns 77 cents to every dollar a man makes. But in modeling, the scales are tipped. Female models out earn male models by a whopping 148 percent! It's no surprise that the highest paid model for seventh year in a row is Gisele. That girl's a hustler. But who are the male models raking in the dough?

Meet Sean O'Pry, the highest paid male supermodel. Isn't he just gorgeous. Those stone-cold blue eyes and chiseled face. And that body. Mmm mmm. Yeah, you've seen him around. Armani, Versace, Viktor & Rolf, Zara, GQ. I'd hire Sean in a heartbeat. The man is working it. I especially love the ads where he's wearing very little clothing. Eye candy, baby!

Coming in at a very close second place with $1.4 million is British gent David Gandy. This guy's been around for over a decade and doesn't show any signs of slowing down. He's been the face of Dolce & Gabbana forever. He's also done campaigns for Hugo Boss, Johnny Walker, and is a regular contributor for GQ and British Vogue. So handsome.

With all this sexiness, I'm still trying to figure out why male models aren't making more money. Some experts say it's because men can't score lucrative cosmetics campaigns like the ladies do. True. When was the last time you saw a dude in a Mac makeup ad? Then there's the buying power of women. We spend way more money on fashion and beauty products. So the industry caters to our needs. Or as Forbes put it: "It's conventional wisdom in the fashion world that men in ads provide a lower return on investment." Another factor may be the celebrity endorsement. James Franco for Gucci. Brad Pitt for Chanel No. 5. Their faces and names are more recognizable by far.

Oh well, boys. I'm sorry that you're not making as much as the girls. Being a male model is hard work. But, hey. You still look good doing it.

Get Lucky!

Ok, guys. I know it's been a hard week. You go to your job everyday and work hard for the man. No one appreciates your dedication. Well hey! I do. So instead of busting your butt these last few hours before the weekend, I suggest you take a break with these handsome gentlemen.

To announce the nominees for the CFDA(Council of Fashion Designers of America) menswear designer of the year award, the organization created this video. It's a chorus of male models dressed in Thom Browne, Michael Bastian, and Duckie Brown singing Daft Punk's Get Lucky. Let's all join in.

First of all, I need to know who's actually singing in this? Did these guys have to audition? I need details, people! Anyway, it's absolutely delicious. If only I could get a group of male models to start singing and dancing in a flashmob just for me. Wink-wink. Have a great weekend, lovelies!

Dear Fairy Model Mother: Follow My Head or My Heart?

There's a line in the movie A Bronx Tale that goes a something like this: "The saddest thing in life is wasted talent, and the choices that you make will shape your life forever." I was reminded of this while having a serious conversation with one of my best guy friends. He was in quite a predicament. On one hand there's this great professional opportunity and on the other his natural talent. It's a super tough decision, so which do you go for? Do you follow your head or your heart?

Here's the back story. My friend was a marketing major in college. He's an idea guy who knows how to get things done and also has a way with words. He's great at it, but he's an even better model. He's the dude who just wakes up looking photogenic even with the crust still in his eyes. After graduating, he continued to juggle modeling while still working in marketing. One day the modeling gigs slowed down and he was offered a great position at a marketing company, so he took it.

Everything was fine until his agency started calling him again. On his lunch break, he'd sneak off to castings. Like Clark Kent changing into Superman, he'd transform into sexy male model with the quickness and return back to work just a normal guy. The whole time, the people at his marketing company had no idea he's a model. The situation got even worse when he began booking big jobs. He was running out of sick days and reasons why he couldn't come into the office. Jump to a co-worker seeing his face in a commercial and on a billboard. The cat's officially out of the bag.

My personal opinion: men seem to have an especially difficult time in these situations. They are taught that they are supposed to lead the way and bring home the bacon. Logically, the marketing job is a good choice. The income is reliable and the schedule is predictable. Modeling is a gamble. You never know when you're booking anything and when you'll actually get paid. What advice did I give my boy? Go with your heart. Even though he's good at marketing, modeling is where his passion is. You can hear the difference in the way he talks about his 9 to 5 compared to how excited he gets when talking about a gig he just shot. An office job is something you can always come back to, but with modeling and anything super creative you've got to ride the train while you still have the hutzpah to do it. Balls to the wall.

Sometimes going with your gut is the only way to fly. Don't waste your talent. You may never recover from that loss. Good luck, my man. As always, if you have any questions the Fairy Model Mother hotline is always open.
